Composition for Four Amplifiers.
Quadaural;
A removed-sound piece by Charlie Morton.

October 17-18 2024
Quadaural is a quadrophonic sound installation for 1-3 listeners showcasing a new 30-minute composition. The music has been designed specifically for the four-speaker surround array, with each amplifier acting as an isolated sound communicator in the arrangment. A sound may appear the same through multiple speakers until shifting and warping independently from one another, where the original sound may still be heard. This isolation of removed sounds aims to create an illusory effect where the brain struggles to find a context for the differences in each ear.
Over the half-hour, the instrumentation grows from sine-wave minimalism, to abrasive solo percussion, ending in lush and textured polyphony.
Quadaural will be open for two days where listeners can experience the full-length installation uninterrupted, before featuring at Massey Exposure in November. If you are interested, please book a slot below.
